About the Event

Join Bex for a walk filled with folklore and witchcraft in the historic New Forest. The walk will start in the historic village of Burley, hidden deep in the majestic forest and known for its natural beauty, quaint streets and it’s magical connection.  The walk will be a circular route starting in the village.

We will climb up to Castle Hill Lane to admire the views over the Avon Valley, share our favourite stories from our childhood about witches, dragons, ghouls and ghosts before continuing on to the ancient hill fort and a Bronze Age earthen burial chamber, before returning to the village.

Once back in the village we can visit “A Coven of Witches” so named by Sybil Leeks, not only the most famous White Witch of the New Forest but perhaps one of Britain’s most famous witches.

Having explored the magical connections of the village we can warm up with a drink at the Queens Head Pub and share on some smuggling nostalgia, the pub dates back to the 1680’s.

Distance: 4.2 miles - mostly easy walking on level ground with some gentle gradients with one long but gentle uphill section.  What to bring: weather appropriate clothing and a folkore story to share.

Meeting point: The Burley Inn

Start time: 1pm

Walk duration: 2-3 hours
